UdK - Principles of computational design - Fall 2003
Day 2: Behavior - slide 03

Motion as behavior

Motion can be used to differentiate between characters (==objects with different personalities)

Qualities of motion:
- Linear / mechanical vs. curvy / organic
- Slow vs. fast
- Acceleration / deceleration

Technical introduction: Movement

- Acceleration / deceleration
- Direction and speed
- Character state

Examples

- Letterscapes (Peter Cho)
- RotatoWorm (Marius Watz)
- Boids (Craig Reynolds)

Exercises

BE01: Create two characters that move randomly on the stage. One should be mechanical, one should be organic.
